HtH91 – Eclair’s Quiet Moment In The Office

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: A lot of things have happened, Eclair takes stock of them in the office.

The door to the second-floor dramaturg's office clicks open, and the person entering does not shut it fully. She leaves the thinnest line of light peeking out into the second floor hallway.

"Pwoof..."

Once again, Eclair Baudz is by herself.

It seems that moments like these are rare, ever since she and the girls got back from the New Year's trip out.

Even so, she still wanted to keep a tradition alive; which was that the dramaturg's office doors do not fully close.

In her foggy memory, she had lost count of the number of times she had stormed into this very office, on the other side of the desk!

She was always listened to with patience, mostly with laughter, and unknowingly, pointed in the right direction.

And now, she sat on the opposite side of the desk, facing the door.

A lot had happened hadn't it?

From the very moment that she came back with the girls, where they discovered a fire had accidentally broke out in the house in their absence.

Then the girls banding together to rebuild that section of the house.

Eclair smiled.

With slow, steady progress, the burnt walls were being replaced, and from the drawings that were left on her table, Lumi has started to think about the specific pieces of furniture to move in now.

The room won't be rebuilt in one day.

Eclair tidies up the papers strewn across the desk into a pile...

But when it is rebuilt...

Will the theatre be ready to welcome its first guest?

A real outsider-outsider.

Someone who appreciates the theatre house from the outside, unconnected to the house in any way.

Perhaps... if they appreciate the house enough, perhaps they would...

Eclair fidgets a little in her seat.

Old instincts stirred up within her.

The ones which reminded her that things in the world existed because they had value.

Certainly, after being here for long, the house did hold immense meaning to her.

But the house has always worked from a place that went beyond metrics, algorithms and concurrent views.

If she measured it like that… would she still enjoy it?

It would feel like moving forward a step, but not enjoying the direction the foot stepped in.

Meaning, ability, and value all in mismatch.

A tangled knot that was made difficult to resolve.

And yet, when she prods at this lump of string...

She chose to laugh.

It was a small, hearty laugh, mostly to herself.

Like the part of the house that was being renovated, this knot would not be finished in one day either.

The dramaturg was no in great hurry.

There was no grandfather clock counting down towards midnight pressing down upon her.

If there were storms, they were far out at sea, and not anywhere near the house at the moment.

She did not have to worry, for now.

Instead...

"I've been here for so long, and never noticed this thing had wheels...!"

Indeed it had! Our dramaturg swivels forwards and backwards, both hands holding the desk while doing so! For such a long time, she had only sat in the chair as she did her homework, but now that she was able to let her thoughts roam free, she found herself still discovering new things in this house! Considering that the previous gold-masked owner had always seemed content to sit upright and in one posture, this hidden functionality was never explored!

...

...

Right now, she was alone, right?

It wouldn't hurt if she enjoyed herself a little...!

Fingers on the edge of the desk, she steadies herself atop the chair, wobbling while crouched in its seat!

Wobbling a little, her fingers gliss the edges of the desk...

The spinning momentum sending both chair and dramaturg twirling off into the side of the room!

(Crash!)

The impromptu vehicle knocks into the nearby bookshelf, a loosened tome bonking the top of the dramaturg's head!

Having indulged her playful side out of sight, she rubs the top of the sore spot, sticking a tongue out to nobody in particular!

Hell's Theatre, continues!
