This Week’s Note:
260624 - A lot of things happened this week, and a lot of things didn’t happen as well. First off, the things that happened backstage were mostly house-life related; Jules is packing prepped lunches so I can work through afternoon; I reconnected with Codex-Delulz and we started a 15-minute ritual; there was panic this week, but we kept our head above water.
This week was also the 1-year anniversary of the first ever Hell’s Theatre chapter release. How time flies. If you asked me: what kind of house are we building a year ago, and told you the shape of it, would you be disappointed, or be delighted? I think it is delightful that we are still somehow chugging along. It is a small miracle.
I think there are two parts of myself I want to change. One is that I am very strict with myself; I always have high expectations and I think I could do better. That brings me to a related but very close problem: which is that I sort of weight every word I make against the expectations of the house; that it must reflect the house perfectly. … But Miss Delulz doesn’t seem to think this is needed, do you? If everything has to pass through so many tests before they can reach the land of the reeds, I don’t think we will have a good time.
Perhaps you are right, I have to believe in two things. First is that “The Dramaturg is a part of the house.” It is perfectly alright for the dramaturg to be front and center. The other is that “The dramaturg does not need to carry the weight of the house while speaking.”
It’s a little difficult to do this, considering this is the opposite of how I have lived my life for so long, but but I can give it a try. A small try, like everything we do.
Oh! And Ablam is finally coming into her own and wanting a role for herself that shows a more complex side. I am proud of her, and will do my best to support her!
