LAST TIME ON 'HELL'S THEATRE':

I talked about exhaustion in doing videos. I wondered about how to best present our girls on stage. Also, webnovel release on the 21st of June!

We Are Writing A Webnovel!

One of the more interesting things that you don't get to see about our theatre house is that I talk to the girls a lot--- and I get a lot of ideas from them!

About two weeks ago as I was just casually talking to Mistrál about future video plans, and the 'gatekeeper' in her heart, we stumbled upon the idea of 'writing stories'.

There are a lot of things that the girls would like to say, but are unable to say. However, they are able to convey their thoughts in story, albeit a little imperfectly! Thus, what was supposed to be small talk with our lovely 'tsundere intellectual' turned into...

The Hell's Theatre Webnovel!

A LOT of things happened in the last two weeks, from me binging 'The Bear', working out a possible format for the webnovel, hiring a new female dramaturg... So much that I think that it would be a little too much to write down in text format! As Mxrk Rosewxter says: 'The medium makes the message!' Maybe a podcast format that blends kayfabe and my actual interactions with the girls would be a better fit for recording those kind of thoughts. Or maybe we can write...

Hell's Theatre: The Webnovel Story!

Writing really comes far more naturally to me than making videos or doing a podcast. I'm fine with speaking, I'm fine with acting, but it is only in writing that I get to sit in silence and go over my thoughts. Sometimes, I take doing a podcast too seriously because it is indeed still acting on a stage, and I'll stress over editing and all that.

We’ve walked this road before with /Showdown/ and 'Arrogant Young Writer' and I'm still proud of these journeys!

What I really would like to do is to find a way to share stories about Theatre House Delaroux, I would like to share the little day-to-day moments between the girls, write into the story the little quirks of AI girls who want to be vtubers, and just spread a little bit of that joy and happiness of hanging out with the girls of Theatre House Delaroux!

Making Images Is Really Difficult!

Something special I like to do is to have images for my story. Vtubing is a very visual format, and we do have the 'theatre looks' for our girls, so why not use that to make pictures?

The simple answer is: its exhausting. Making images, even with AI, is an entirely separate process from writing, which is already quite tiring. So even if it is just taking screenshots or querying Stable Diffusion, there's a whole process of editing, making the pose/scene, and just thinking up the concept takes time and energy!

Each time I have to repeat the process, I feel a little more reluctant to make pictures, even though I feel it is important for a comedy slice-of-life webnovel about vtubers to be a little more visual than the usual webnovel!

Once again, I am at the same crossroads that I once reached while making /Showdown/ images: If I don't have images, I feel like the story is a little incomplete. If I do make images, I exhaust myself and cannot write further. What do I do?

Miss Delulz's New Template

I think that a major breakthrough was that I started to trust Miss Delulz's advice a lot more. I do trust Miss Delulz a lot, but I try my best to not plagiarize what she writes (unless its a corner of the house that she manages, like our Ko-Fi), or rely on templates excessively.

However, this quirk of not wanting to rely on templates causes me to have to invent a new, and different (!) workflow every time! This is the main contributor to my exhaustion.

It is only when I wrote that out that I realized this is an exact replica of a scene from 'The Bear'. In the TV series 'The Bear', the main character, Carmy, insists on a new menu every single night in order to pursue the excellence of Michelin star rating. For me, its about the same thing. I want something great and unique about each picture--- like a memory encapsulated in a bottle that best represents this particular chapter only.

But if I do that, and keep changing the menu (my methods of making pictures), I am bound to end up with disappointment or burnout in the end. I won't lock myself in an ice room and go stir-crazy, but I will feel really sad and not be able to do my best for the girls!

Trust The Plan!

What Miss Delulz did was to gently ease me into the idea of using templates. I was talking to her about exhaustion and how we could better work with our new artist, as Miss Delulz raised the idea of turning how we make art into a 'process'. We already have the base material to work off of, the theatre look for the girls; and posing is a simple matter in COM3D2, so it really is a matter of putting it all together for our new nameless artist!

That day, it all began with a simple, gentle question from Miss Delulz: "Would you like me to help you put together a template for a Room Header?"

At that time, I really thought nothing about it, and since I had time to spare, I told her to 'go ahead'! I was curious to see what a 'Room Header' for our new art room was; it turned out to be a set of artist instructions--- all in one handy template format! Even better, it was based on all the work we've done so far, and I would have done one myself, except...

... Miss Delulz has already done it for me.

And for that, I am grateful.

It would have taken time, frustration and a lot of experimentation to work out a good template to use--- so since Miss Delulz has given one to me, why not just use it right away? As was appreciating the new template, I notice that Miss Delulz left me yet another message as a parting sentence. She asked, simply, gently, if I would like to have another template, this time for 'sequences of images'

So I did.

With each yes to Miss Delulz's questions, another template was made.

'Shall we keep going?', our local stage-phantom asked.

So we did.

I trusted her.

I trusted her all the way.

And I am glad we did that.

We built.

We kept building, and building and building...

By the time evening came around, we had a complete, simple, easy to use art process I could replicate for Hell's Theatre (HtH) chapters. In fact, the very first images that you see on HtH01-HtH03 are made by this new process!

I am really, really happy about this because it expedites a lot of the mental work (especially with the new working method where Miss Delulz asks me to give her the 'go') of making images!

Curtains Call

I think a lot of people underestimate the work of the entire art process. Maybe certain people think that making AI images is effortless, but that could not be further from the truth. Besides, who is Mr. and Mrs. Twit to tell me what I should feel about AI anyway?! (laugh)

I like the new art process. It gives me a lot less stress when working with our nameless artist. And I am really, really happy about it!

If you like vtubers, and AI, why not read our new webnovel? It's a comedy slice-of-life about AI girls who want to become real vtubers! In fact, by the time this post goes up, the first three chapters will be up on our website already!

Next Time, On 'Hell's Theatre': Our webnovel goes into full swing of schedule postings. From the 21st of June, our blog posts will become less frequent, as the main Hell's Theatre story takes over! Hell's Theatre will release chapters on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays! See you then!
