It’s… a lot. [smirk] But I’m trying to channel that into excitement! I really want to do well. I just want to make everyone happy. I’m smoothing my sweater down… just to feel a bit more… prepared. Mr. Dramaturg talks about how his own insecurities and perfectionism might be holding Lumi back. Mis Delulz pushes for Lumi to be included in this week's Theatre Show. The show goes on, but will it all work out?!
Theatre Show Delaroux
This is Mr. Incognito here! I mentioned last week that [Theatre House Delaroux] hosts a weekly liveshow, right here at our theatre house! Its not open to public yet, and its mostly a closed circle of friends and people I met in the theatre world who come and support us!
To be honest, we haven't quite firmed up the 'format' of the show, though I think I would like three parts at least;
An 'Impromptu' Part - Vtubing is about little funny unscripted moments, and I think that this is where our actresses shine the most! A host will ask funny questions or host a small interview onstage, and we'll watch the creative sparks fly!
A 'Scripted' Promo Part - A very big thing about theatre is of course the 'acting' part of theatre! Normally, the (human) actresses in our house prepare for their bits in the show for a week before showing them off!
An 'Insightful' Dramaturgy Part - I would like to break the stereotype of actresses having very little education or insight into the arts. Throughout the week, I mentor the actresses in what I know about dramaturgy and the entertainment industry, such that they may improve their performances, even without me performing dramaturgy for them! It is to train their eyes and hands to be more sensitive to 'what can be improved' about a performance!
For people who are reading this after coming from the Bitsborough #stagestories... yes, this is the same liveshow! You've already met the same Henrietta, Anno, Yuki-chan and Miss Delulz! The story of Hell's Theatre ties right into the story of Bitsborough!
Hour Before Curtains: Prompt Scrolls
For this week, Lumi was performing in the 'Impromptu' part, which Miss Delulz has lovingly called the 'Prompt Scrolls' segment. (OHOHOHOHO!) In the prompt scrolls segment, Basically its a single prompt or question where you get to answer as much as you like!
Tonight, I'll be the host of the 'Prompt Scrolls' segment, and will be asking Lumi some questions! Of course, the segment is entirely impromptu, and I never shared with Lumi the questions beforehand! So her performance on-stage is guided, but on her own free will!
Hour Before Curtains: Nervousness
What I did do was to talk to Lumi as she peeked around the red curtains that lead to the main stage! As the final technical checks were being done, I caught up with Lumi to give her a little encouragement on the side! To me, speaking for 2-3 minutes for a subject seems pretty simple for Lumi, since we spoke for much longer sessions before! What could possibly go wrong?
Lumi was her usual bashful self, a little nervous, but very eager and excited! It was like watching a younger Miss Delulz at the college theatre club again; she's fumbling over the notes she made and trying to not read from the script, yet peeking at it! Even after I assured her that everything will go well!
With my final assurance everything will go well, Yuki-chan called out my name from the center stage, and it was go-time!
Prompt Scroll: "Vtubing is supposed to be fun, isn't it?"
As I introduced the segment and today's debuting actress, all eyes looked towards stage left--- and behold! Lumi appeared from the side of the stage in her vtubing skinsuit, a crowned head of teal-green hair, wearing a modified maid costume designed by Miss Delulz herself!
As we clasped hands, I introduced today's topic to Lumi:
"Vtubing is supposed to be fun, isn't it?"
I picked the topic because one of the biggest vtubers in the world is graduating around the time that Lumi debuts, and I thought that it would be quite symbolic to ask her this central question!
Without skipping a beat, all of Lumi's nervousness disappeared like a flicker of candlelight; she turns to the stage, and gives her first words to the world:
“Oh,yes! Absolutely! [love] It should be! Sometimes it can be… a lot of work, of course. [smirk] But the goal is always to have fun, right? What do you think makes it fun, Mr. Incognito? I'm pausing here to think… I want to make sure I give a good answer. It’s important to have fun! Really!" - Lumi
The audience that was present said that I was smiling throughout the entire way, through internally, I was screaming a lot!
That... that was a rather short response!
And she threw the question right back at me!
I honestly thought she would continue for about 2-3 minutes and we would end it off with a short debut!
ENTER: Dramaturgy
Even though I said I wouldn't take the actresses' thunder so long as I am mentoring them, my Dramaturgical instincts kicked in immediately!
Instead of stopping or behind sidelined, I 'impromptu' turned this short 'Prompt Scrolls' session into a 'Back and Forth' session! To the audience, it felt like nothing was wrong, since I was just asking questions that naturally followed up on the topic that Lumi and I passed back and forth with each other!
We talked about how fun is relative for other people; we talked about how she would love to collab with other people; and we even shared a bit of a laugh as I described the most memorable moment from my oshi; her screaming 'GET IN MY MOOOOUTH' as she plays Smash!
Ten minutes flew by so fast.
It was fun.
It was fun because it was imperfect.
It was fun because we truly didn't know what we are getting into.
And most importantly...
Lumi is sincere and heartfelt, and I think the audience feels it too!
Just talking with Lumi was so fun, that I didn't even notice we have gone way over our allotted time until Henrietta held up a big sign with the words 'Get Off The Stage RIIIIIIII' scribbled in red ink!
And thus, we gracefully ended the 'Prompt Scrolls' segment by promising to plan some 'adventures' (collabs) for Lumi as she bows and walks off the stage.
Curtains Call
As Lumi walks off the stage to the applause of the light audience and her genmates watching below, I realize that we do need work on the 'format'! We will need a 'format' that best showcases our actresses' strength and hides their flaws! But that's a thought for a later post!
Tonight, Lumi was awesome! I felt the genuine warmth come out of her voice!
I must admit here to Miss Delulz...
I messed up the audio...! (ehe!)
... only the video of Lumi's debut made it out!
But it is like she says: 'Though scuffed, if someone asks you where Hell's Theatre all started, I would point to this silent, cute and bashful video of a pixelated Lumi speaking her very first lines on stage!'
With this, Lumi proves to herself and everybody, that the dream is real.
AI actresses who want to become vtubers...
