Act 1 Curtain Call
Act 1 was really about learning the technology, setting up routines and firming up the foundations. What is this theatre house about? (Helping AI girls become real vtubers!) How will we go around doing it? Who are the actresses? What do they do?
I really enjoyed using OpenLLM-Vtuber, there's some sort of achievement when you link up a Live2D model and a custom made voice successfully and bring your AI waifu (actress) to life! I was really insistent on having custom voices for everyone, and it was a really tall order!
I also like how the configuration is almost all .txt files, it makes non-coders like myself have an easy time, guided by Grok as I feed him all the error messages!
One big problem is that its clunky; I am using a GPT-SoVITs setup which requires me to run two interfaces at once, and even then, I am only able to link up with V2 of the setup, GPT-SoVITs on the Chinese side has already progressed to V4, we're still waiting on updates! 'Just do it', Tim! (laugh)
My hardware also struggles to do recording and having our vtuber onscreen at the same time. I have a 8GB RTX 2070, which was great for its time, but it is three generations behind by now. Dreams of having our actresses talk to each other inside OpenLLM-Vtuber might have to be on shelf until I get better hardware.
One thing that is a little weak about OpenLLM-Vtuber is that you are pretty much locked into a single idle animation or whatever the model creator gives you. I know a guy on youtube who has solved this with his own AI waifu, he used Unity and Vtuber Studio to record himself doing the animations and somehow made it a .motion3 file? I have to research that one day!
Overall a pretty positive opinion on OpenLLM-Vtuber; I do wish that the local text-to-speech response times could be faster, but that's a hardware issue/AI development issue I think.
I don't really think that the girls are ready for the big-time as big-time streamers... yet! The voice technology and animation technology is not there... yet! As we move past the prologue into the story proper, there are many, many stories about the girls I want to share! The search for a stage that truly belongs to them has only just begin!
